Fostering an inclusive city

Public space is a shared living environment. Its design must cater to the diversity of all users and take into account the needs of specific groups—such as people with reduced mobility, families with young children, the elderly, those facing financial hardship, and tourists. The Citygie Group is therefore committed to offering products that can be used by everyone. Our equipment complies with current accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility (PRM).

Ensuring access to public restrooms

To be truly accessible, urban facilities must also be available in sufficient numbers. Even today, access to toilets that offer optimal hygiene and privacy is not guaranteed everywhere—not even in France. The UN has identified over 3 billion people deprived of this essential human right. The scale of the issue is particularly evident in the most affected areas; open defecation raises concerns regarding sanitation and safety that tend to exacerbate existing social inequalities.

France has nearly 25,000 public toilets across 7,000 towns and urban areas. Their distribution across the country is relatively uneven, varying between rural municipalities and major cities, as well as between different regions.

The number of public toilets installed must be sufficient to meet the population's needs. Moreover, the mere presence of facilities is not enough; they must be properly maintained, easily identifiable by users, and accessible to everyone.

To address this public health issue and help small municipalities improve their sanitary facilities, the Citygie Group partners with local authorities. Together with Francioli, we have developed a more flexible solution tailored to the needs and budgets of small communities, while upholding high standards of quality, safety, and accessibility. Committed to inclusivity, our group is also developing female urinals in partnership with other players in the public restroom sector. Furthermore, through our Protecsan division, we handle equipment maintenance and offer a guaranteed cleanliness service for public toilets, working in coordination with municipal technical departments.
